How Long They Lives In The Dark

The longest gestation period of any animal is that of the Alpine salamander, which takes up to 38 months to give birth at altitudes over 1400 m (4600 ft) in the Swiss Apls, though this drops to about 25 months at lower altitudes. The gestation period of the Virginia opossum, by contrast, may be as little as eight days. The longest pregnancy of any mammal is that of the Asiatic elephant, with an average of 609 days (over 20 months) and a maximum of 760 days - over two and a half times that of a human mother.
